Ricky Stuart contract: Raiders coach signs new deal

After 10 rounds of the 2024 season, the Raiders hold a 5-4 record.

The club is already planning for the future, with young talent like Ethan Strange and Xavier Savage being integrated into the first team.

Stuart's extension will ensure he can oversee the development of these youngsters as Canberra search for their first Premiership since 1994.

"The Raiders are in the process of moving through a significant transition, with one of the youngest playing squads in the NRL and we see Ricky as a central part of that transition," the club's chairman Dennis Richardson said.

"His values and character have been an important ingredient in the attraction of the young talent we’ve been able to bring to the club in recent times.

"His re-signing until the end of the decade provides continuity and certainty for a playing group which we believe has the potential to deliver the ultimate prize in the coming years."

How long has Ricky Stuart coached the Raiders for?

Stuart has been the head coach at the Raiders since 2014.

Once his new deal expires, he will have spent 16 years at the helm in the nation's capital.

Coming into Magic Round, Stuart has taken charge of 256 games in Canberra as a coach.

Ricky Stuart coaching career

After a successful career as a player in first grade, Stuart transitioned quickly into coaching.

He secured his first head coach role in 2002 with the Sydney Roosters, winning the premiership that season.

After five years with the Tricolours, Stuart moved to the Cronulla Sharks in 2007 but left prematurely in 2010, citing a lack of support from the players amid several off-field controversies.

He returned to NRL coaching circles three years later, joining the Parramatta Eels on a lucrative deal in 2013.

However, that move didn't last long, with Stuart signing with his former club the Raiders in 2014.

"I’ve had a lot of criticism today. It’s not easy to take," he said following the controversial move.

"I’ve had my character judged. I made a decision that’s best for my career and my family and I’ll wear all the criticism."

In between his NRL coaching stints, Stuart took charge of the NSW Blues side in State of Origin series in 2005 and between 2011 and 2012.

He also coached the Australian national team from 2006 to 2008.
