Dylan Edwards injury updates: Diagnosis, return date as Penrith Panthers fullback injures knee in Origin decider image

Dylan Edwards helped New South Wales claim a brilliant State of Origin series victory in enemy territory for only the third time during a decider in Brisbane.

The fullback was his usual tireless self at the back for the Blues on his way to claiming Player-of-the-Match honours in the 14-4 victory, which stole the shield out of Queensland's grasp for the first time in three years.

What made Edwards' performance even more impressive was that he did so while battling with a knee injury which will now sideline him for Penrith's run towards the finals.

Dylan Edwards injury updates: Penrith Panthers fullback injures knee in Origin decider

Edwards was pictured receiving running repairs on his knee throughout the second half of the Blues' win at Suncorp Stadium.

It is unclear exactly when the No.1 picked up the issue, but he started sporting strapping on his knee while continuing to star for his state as he finished with 242 run metres from 27 carries.

However, following the victory, reports have emerged that Edwards suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury.

The fullback will join Mitch Moses on the sidelines after the halfback suffered a torn biceps in the closing stages of the clash.

Meanwhile, fellow Blues Cameron Murray and Haumole Olakau’atu are also looking at stints out of the game after each being slapped with two-match suspensions for their involvement in a melee.

Dylan Edwards return date

Edwards wasn't named by Penrith for their Round 20 clash against the Dolphins this weekend, with Ivan Cleary opting to rest his fullback and Isaah Yeo after the decider.

Although the Panthers are now set to be without their No.1 for between two and four weeks due to a PCL injury.

Fixtures against St George Illawarra and Newcastle follow the match on Sunday against Wayne Bennett's side.

It is believed that at worst case scenario, Edwards will return in Round 24 for the blockbuster meeting with the Melbourne Storm.
