The Cronulla Sharks went very close to pulling off a big comeback win in Round 15, recovering from 22-0 down to the Dolphins before ultimately losing 30-28.

Earlier this season, the Sydney Roosters went close to creating history, falling just a few points short of recording the equal-largest comeback in the NRL era.

Down to 12 players after Dom Young's 26th-minute send-off, the Tricolours came within a single try of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, who held a 26-0 half-time lead.

The Sporting News takes a look at the biggest comebacks in NRL history.

Biggest comeback in NRL history

There is a three-way tie for the largest comeback in the NRL era, which currently stands at 26 points.

The most recent team to achieve the feat was the Dolphins in 2023 when they came from 0-26 down after just 33 minutes to defeat the Gold Coast Titans 28–26 in Brisbane.

Before that, the Penrith Panthers recovered from 6-32 against the New Zealand Warriors to draw the game at 32-all in 2009.

In 1998, the North Queensland Cowboys stormed back from 0-26 to beat the Penrith Panthers 36-28 following a second-half onslaught.

Biggest comeback in an NRL grand final

The record for the largest come-from-behind victory in a grand final belongs to the Panthers.

It is fresh in the memory of fans, too, with the reigning premiers achieving the feat in 2023.

Down 8-24 with 24 minutes remaining, Nathan Cleary led Penrith to a stunning 16-point comeback, claiming a sensational 26-24 win.
