Will Dustin Martin retire from the AFL and Richmond?

Martin himself has made no comment on when he would consider AFL retirement, with the superstar notoriously staying out of the media spotlight during his playing career.

His 300th game is approaching during Round 13 against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval, although he could be 'managed' so the match is the following week at the MCG versus Hawthorn.

Martin is out of contract at the end of the 2024 AFL season.

Dustin Martin could retire and play for Gold Coast in 2025 - Brendan Fevola

According to former AFL star Brendan Fevola, Martin could retire straight after his 300th game and then play for the Gold Coast in 2025.

"They want to play him at the MCG (against Hawthorn) for his 300th game. Dusty has been waiting for his 300th game. There’s a lot of rumours about him and next year, whether he will retire or play somewhere else" Fevola said on the Fifi, Fev & Nick radio show prior to Round 12.

"My mail is that he will retire after he plays his 300th game. Say thank you to the Richmond fans after his 300th. Have a couple of months off. Get fit. Get his head right.

"His manager has been looking at real estate in the Gold Coast for Dusty to move up and rekindle his friendship with (Richmond premiership coach) Damien Hardwick, who now coaches the Gold Coast Suns.

"He’ll be getting paid a lot of money to go up to the Gold Coast, sit at full-forward, help those young kids; they’ve never played finals before in their history. So, they’ll get him up there and be the centrepiece of Queensland football."

Could Dustin Martin play for another AFL club in 2025?

Along with Fevola linking Martin to the Gold Coast in 2025, former Richmond captain Trent Cotchin declared the Brownlow Medallist a good chance to be at a new club in 2025.

Speaking in April on Talking Footy about Martin and Tigers team-mate Liam Baker, Cotchin said: "I believe that one of them, if not both, will not be in Richmond colours next year."

During his career, Martin has been linked to a move to GWS, with clubs north of Victoria seemingly preferred as they are out of the public AFL spotlight.

It would be difficult to see Martin playing for another Victorian club in 2025.
