The AFL trade period and free agency is underway as clubs begin to confirm which players are signing or leaving.

On Monday, the trade period officially arrived with all 18 clubs now available to make moves as they seek to improve their rosters. 

With plenty of deals still to come, The Sporting News will provide all the latest coverage on confirmed trades and free agency moves.

AFL trade period confirmed deals 2024

Dan Houston, Jack Lukosius and John Noble mega deal

(October 15)

Port Adelaide: Receives Jack Lukosius (Gold Coast), Joe Richards (Collingwood), Rory Atkins (Gold Coast), Picks 13, 29, 50 (Gold Coast), Pick 36 (Collingwood)

Collingwood: Receives Dan Houston, Pick 58 (Port Adelaide)

Gold Coast: Receives John Noble (Collingwood), pick 39 (Port Adelaide), 2025 first-round pick (Collingwood), 2025 first-round pick (Port Adelaide)

Five players are exchanged in a single trade with Dan Houston getting to Collingwood, Jack Lukosius to Port Adelaide and John Noble to Gold Coast.

Collingwood small and Gold Coast utility Rory Atkins end up at the Power, while the Suns nab two future first round picks for next season.


St Kilda - Brisbane pick swap

(October 15)

St Kilda: Receives Picks 32 and 45

Brisbane: Receives Pick 27


West Coast-Carlton-Richmond mega trade involving Liam Baker

(October 15)

West Coast: Receives Liam Baker (Richmond), Matt Owies (Carlton), Picks 12, 73 (Carlton)

Carlton: Receives Picks 3, 63, 68 (West Coast)

Richmond: Pick 14 (West Coast via Carlton)

Finally a trade involving players has dropped with Liam Baker and Matt Owies getting to West Coast for a significant price.

The Eagles have given up pick three and some late selections to land Baker, Owies and pick 12.

Jack Graham joins West Coast

(October 8)

West Coast: Receives Jack Graham

Richmond: Receives second round compensation pick (currently No. 42)

West Coast have landed two-time premiership-winning midfielder Jack Graham on a four-year deal.

Graham, 26, heads to the Eagles after 131 games with Richmond.

"Jack will add another mature and experienced body to our midfield mix, and he is in the age profile we are looking to bolster amongst our squad," West Coast list manager Matt Clarke said.

"His professionalism and leadership will also be valuable for our developing playing group."


Jack Darling moves to Kangaroos

(October 7)

North Melbourne: Receives Jack Darling

West Coast: Receives North Melbourne's fourth round selection (currently No.67)

The Eagles have confirmed the departure of their premiership-winning forward Jack Darling. 

The 32-year-old, who sits second on the club's all-time goalkicking and games played lists with 532 goals from 298 matches, has joined the Kangaroos on a long-term deal. 

"Jack has been an outstanding contributor to West Coast over the last 15 years and we appreciate the reasons for his decision to join North Melbourne," Eagles General Manager of Football, Gavin Bell, said.


Alex Neal-Bullen joins the Crows

(October 7)

Adelaide: Receives Alex Neal-Bullen

Melbourne: Receives pick No.28

After nearly 200 games and a premiership at the Demons, Neal-Bullen requested a trade home for personal reasons last month which has duly been granted.  

"Alex is not only a fantastic footballer but an outstanding individual," Melbourne's List Manager, Tim Lamb, said upon confirmation of the 28-year-old's move to the Crows. 

"This decision was one Alex did not take lightly. We understand how necessary this move was for him and his family, and we are pleased to have been able to work with Adelaide to finalise a deal that is in the best interest of all parties."


Isaac Cumming heads to Adelaide

(October 4)

Adelaide: Receives Isaac Cumming

GWS: Receives end of round one compensation pick (currently No. 21)

The Crows have secured the services of Isaac Cumming from GWS.

After 81 games for the Giants, the 26-year-old has decided to move south following a frustrating season with injuyr.

"We are obviously thrilled that Isaac has decided to join our club and he is a significant addition to our list," Adelaide's general manager of list management and strategy Justin Reid said.

"We've followed him closely at GWS and we like his versatility, he can play in defence and on the wing, is a strong runner, courageous and a good overhead mark for his size."


Carlton add Nick Haynes as free agent

GWS: No compensation

Carlton have taken a punt on former GWS defender Nick Haynes as a free agent.

The 32-year-old joins the Blues on a one-year deal after 211 games with the Giants, having previously been considered one of the competition's premier intercept players.


Tom Campbell joins fourth club

(October 4)

Melbourne: Receives Tom Campbell

St Kilda: No compensation

Ruckman Tom Campbell has joined a fourth AFL club following a free agency switch from St Kilda to Melbourne.

The 32-year-old, who has played 58 AFL games, will provide some support and competition for Max Gawn.


Collingwood land Harry Perryman

(October 4)

Collingwood: Receives Harry Perryman

GWS: Receives round one compensation pick (currently No. 16)

Harry Perryman has joined Collingwood on a six-year deal.

The free agent had played 129 games for the Giants before deciding to make the move for a fresh start.

"Harry’s talent and craft makes him an exciting asset for our football program. He offers versatility across the field, and has the opportunity to play multiple roles," Pies list manager Justin Leppitsch said.

"We look forward to seeing where he can take his football in our environment and are confident he can."


Josh Battle joins Hawthorn

(October 4)

Hawthorn: Receives Josh Battle

St Kilda: Receives round one compensation pick (currently No. 8)

Hawthorn's backline has been bolstered by the signing of 26-year-old defender Josh Battle as a free agent.

Battle has joined the club on a six-year deal after 123 games for the Saints.

"Josh is someone we identified as a key acquisition for our club, and we’re delighted he’s chosen the Hawks in this next phase of his career," Hawthorn list boss Mark McKenzie said.

"With more than eight seasons of at the top level, Josh is a proven player who will make an immediate impact in our back six, whilst improving our team on a whole."


Elliott Himmelberg heads to the Suns

(October 4)

Gold Coast: Receives Elliott Himmelberg

Adelaide: No compensation

The Suns have added some depth to their key position stocks in the form of 26-year-old Elliott Himmelberg.

He heads to the Gold Coast after 50 games for the Crows.

"Elliott has the talent and experience to help us on the field in the coming years," Gold Coast list boss Craig Cameron said.

"Our strategy for this trade period is to be targeted with the players we bring in, and Elliott’s versatility will complement our existing mix of key position players."
