North offer for Caleb Daniel knocked
October 14
North Melbourne have had a bid for Caleb Daniel knocked back by the Bulldogs.
According to Tom Morris, the Roos floated their pick 25 for Daniel and pick 48, which the Bulldogs have turned down.
Daniel is contracted for the next two seasons but has seen his role reduced, featuring eight times at VFL level in 2024 as he struggled to lock down a regular spot.
The 28-year-old has played 192 games for the Dogs since being taken with the 42nd pick in the 2014 draft, playing in the 2016 premiership.
Luke Parker trade news, rumours

Sydney and North haggle over Parker price
October 14
Luke Parker's move to North Melbourne is getting closer, although the clubs are yet to agree on the pick which will seal the deal.
The Roos originally offered pick 62, Sydney countered with 25, with most observers expecting them to meet in the middle at 44, perhaps with another shuffle of picks to keep everyone happy.
“Coming to Sydney as a 19-year-old completely changed my life. Sydney became my home, I met my wife Kate here and the Swans became our family,” Parker said.
“The decision to part ways with the club after 14 years has been an extremely difficult choice, one I thought I’d never have to make.
“My most valued memories have been forged here, alongside a group of teammates who have become like brothers, and with fans who have shown me more love than I could have ever imagined deserving.”
After 293 games and three Bob Skilton Medals, Parker will go down as one of Sydney's modern greats.
Parker, who turns 32 this month, is contracted for next season.
Ivan Soldo trade news, rumours

Saints withdraw interest in Soldo
October 13
St Kilda has chosen not to pursue Port Adelaide ruckman Ivan Soldo because of concerns with his knees, according to multiple reports.
Soldo had indicated he wanted to play for the Saints in 2025 but the club went cold on the idea after doing a medical with the player.
It's understood Soldo didn't fail his medical but the worry is about his knee, which he had surgery on in April this year.
Soldo, who won a premiership with Richmond in 2019, will likely remain at the Power next season.
Bailey Smith trade news, rumours

Bulldogs want top 10 pick for Bailey Smith
October 13
Western Bulldogs are asking for a top 10 pick from Geelong to send them midfield star Bailey Smith.
The Herald Sun reports Geelong have offered their current first-round selection - no.17 - but the Bulldogs have made it clear they want more.
Geelong is weighing up their chances of getting Smith through the draft, should the clubs be unable to come to an agreement.
The depth of this year's draft would increase the chance Smith slips to the Cats' first pick, although it would remain a risky play.
It's expected a trade will be done before the window closes next Wednesday, although it could be a protracted negotiation process before then.
Last week, to the surprise of nobody in the football world, Smith officially requested a trade to Geelong.
Smith is off-contract with the Dogs but is not a free agent, meaning the clubs will need to agree to a trade, with Geelong's first-round selection, currently pick 15, expected to be used as part of the deal.
It's believed the Cats have tabled a six-year offer for the 23-year-old.
The wingman missed the 2024 season following an ACL injury but has played 103 senior games since being taken with the seventh pick in the 2018 draft.

Sharp to request trade to Melbourne
October 11
Fringe Brisbane Lions winger Harry Sharp will request a move to Melbourne, according to reports.
Seven's Mitch Cleary stated the 21-year-old wants to join the Demons for opportunities after missing the Lions flag team and only playing 16 games in four seasons.
It's expected that a pick swap or late pick will be involved in the move to send Sharp south, with Brisbane likely to pocket points to help with their acquistions of Levi Ashcroft and Sam Marshall.
Jake Stringer trade news, rumours

Stringer looking likely to join GWS
October 10
Essendon forward Jake Stringer is looking increasingly likely to slot in alongside Coleman Medal winner Jesse Hogan at GWS next season.
The 30-year-old is expected to accept a two-year deal from the Giants if the Bombers receive 'adequate compensation' from the Giants.
That is likely to be GWS' pick 56 but Essendon recruiting boss Matt Rosa wouldn't elaborate on Stringer's possible departure.
“I won’t speculate on that given no official request has been made. But like any other player, the fact that Jake’s a contracted player, it’d have to be adequate compensation," Rosa said.
Daniel Rioli trade news, rumours

Richmond demand two first-round picks for Rioli
October 10
Richmond have asked for two first-round picks from Gold Coast in the initial negotiations for star half-back Daniel Rioli.
The Tigers want pick 6 and 13 from the Suns, in a request that is likely to be denied by the expansion club.
However, pick 6 is likely to be a part of the deal for Rioli, with other selections potentially being exchanged by both clubs.
Matt Owies trade news, rumours

Agent denies Owies asking for big money deal
October 9
The camp of in-limbo Carlton forward Matt Owies has scoffed at reports he is seeking a multi-year contract on big money.
A report in the Herald Sun suggested the 27-year-old, who is currently without a contract, was asking for $700,000-$800,000 a season at Carlton or another club.
Via Sam Edmund on AFL Trade Radio, Owies' agent Matt Bain denied the small forward was asking for a large salary in 2025.
“I’m not even sure we need to say it because it sounded ridiculous anyway,” Edmund said.
“But the news getting reported yesterday that Matthew Owies was commanding a multi-year deal worth between $700,000 and $800,000 a season.
“It was actually also reported that Carlton had rebuffed that price tag, but were open to retaining Owies on a cheaper deal. And the open question was: Is this the reason behind this bizarre situation with Matt Owies?
“I spoke to Owies’ manager Matt Bain of TGI Sport last night. Bain said the reports were ‘wildly inaccurate, completely false’.
“Yes, he's met with some clubs but money has never been spoken about. Further, Carlton have not offered him a contract, money has not been discussed with the Blues at all.
“I think it's fair to say that this has done Matt Owies’ reputation no favours at all. Certainly not his manager Matt Bain’s either.
“He can count himself unlucky to not be staying at the Blues at this stage, but he's not asking for $700,000-$800,000. It makes you wonder where these things originate, how they spread.”
Owies kicked 33 goals for the Blues in 2024, which was behind only Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay at the club.

Oliver positive about Geelong move following meeting
October 2
Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver met with Geelong on Tuesday as the Cats explore the possibility of recruiting the 27-year-old.
Reports yet again linking Oliver with a move away from the Demons have been circling, with club CEO Gary Pert understood to have enquired about the possibility with rival clubs.
Geelong players Tom Stewart and Rhys Stanley were part of the meeting which reportedly left Oliver optimistic about a move down the highway.
Oliver has six years to run on a monster contract worth, on average, more than $1 million per season.
That alone creates a significant obstacle to a move but the wheels have certainly been greased in the last few days.
