AFL Tips Round 23: Betting preview, odds and predictions image

It's the second-last round of the season and there is plenty on the line with 13 sides still able to make AFL finals.

Gold Coast look to be value at home against a struggling Melbourne team, while the Showdown could throw up a surprise result.

Below are The Sporting News’ betting predictions and best bets for Round 23.

Gold Coast vs. Melbourne prediction, tip, best bet

More turmoil has hit Melbourne this week after the news that Christian Petracca could want out of the club.

The Suns have only lost one home game this season - to Brisbane - and should be expected to get a comfortable victory here.

Gold Coast will be full of confidence following their after-the-siren win against Essendon.

Prediction: Gold Coast by 32 points

Best bet: Gold Coast -16.5 ($1.90)

GWS vs. Fremantle prediction, tip, best bet

After beating premiership favourites Brisbane at the Gabba last week, there should be no issues for the Giants at home.

Fremantle showed their vulnerabilities without Josh Treacy and Sean Darcy in the defeat to Geelong.

A red hot Giants outfit should be too good at home and comfortably cover their line.

Prediction: GWS by 22 points

Best bet: GWS -13.5 ($1.90)

Port Adelaide vs. Adelaide prediction, tip, best bet

Adelaide are in amazing form for a bottom four side and showed that with a win against finals-bound Bulldogs.

The Power struggled to get over the line versus Melbourne at the MCG but are shooting for a top-four spot.

It should be a much closer game than the odds suggest so we like Adelaide at the line.

Prediction: Port Adelaide by five points

Best bet: Adelaide +12.5 ($1.90)
