Sydney vs. Collingwood teams

Surely the axe is swung at Sydney after the embarrassing loss to Port Adelaide.

Among possible omissions, Peter Ladhams failed to take his opportunity, while Sam Wicks continued his lean run of form.

Corey Warner was also hooked tactically in the second quarter and is at risk of being dropped.

Joel Amartey (managed) should return, while Dane Rampe (calf) and Lewis Melican (hamstring) will also come back if they pass fitness tests.

A season-saving win for Collingwood against Carlton was soured by the loss of Jordan de Goey (hamstring) for the rest of the season.

It's likely Craig McRae will keep a steady team with one of Ned Long and Patrick Lipinski kept in the side to replace De Goey, with the other at risk.

Collingwood's VFL team had a bye last week so there is no exposed form but Joe Richards, Oleg Markov and Lachie Sullivan could be promoted.

Nathan Krueger (concussion) will also be available.

Brisbane Lions vs. GWS teams

The Brisbane Lions train is up and running as finals approach with nine wins in a row.

It's going to be a hard side to break into but Eric Hipwood (groin) should return after being a late withdrawal against the Saints.

Bruce Reville was the late replacement and could be first out for Hipwood, while Jaxon Prior and Henry Smith will also be looking over their shoulders.

GWS' engine room should receive a huge boost this week with Josh Kelly (calf) to return, while Stephen Coniglio (shoulder) is a chance.

Max Gruzewski is a likely omission after picking up just three disposals before being subbed, while Xavier O'Halloran and Harvey Thomas also struggled.

North Melbourne vs. West Coast teams

North Melbourne has ruled out recruit Dylan Stephens (ankle) for a week in what appears as their only forced change.

Charlie Lazzaro looks set for a recall, underpinning his solid VFL form with 24 disposals and 13 tackles.

George Wardlaw (concussion) will miss another week, while Griffin Logue (wrist) has been sent for surgery - ending his 2024.

Tom Barrass should be a welcome addition to West Coast's team if he gets out of concussion protocols.

Harry Edwards (concussion) should be a straight swap for Barrass after copping a head knock against Gold Coast.

Ruckman Matt Flynn must be close to a recall after dominating at WAFL level with 30 hitouts and 14 disposals.

Fremantle vs. Geelong teams

After a disappointing loss to Essendon, Fremantle will welcome back Nat Fyfe (suspension) with open arms.

Tom Emmett (suspension) comes out of the team, with Neil Erasmus another candidate for omission.

Matthew Johnson pressed for a senior recall with 24 possessions in the WAFL, while Karl Worner also impressed.

Geelong defender/ruck Sam De Koning (knee) faces a test but is expected to get up for the game.

Gary Rohan will also exit concussion protocols if he passes a test.

Mitch Duncan (managed) should be another addition to the team.

If Rohan and Duncan return, the likes of Shaun Mannagh and Jack Bowes could find their selection status under threat.

Essendon vs. Gold Coast teams

Essendon's heart-stopping win against Fremantle was soured by a significant hamstring injury to Xavier Duursma.

There is no shortage of candidates to replace Duursma with Will Setterfield (43 disposals), Ben Hobbs (34 disposals) and Elijah Tsatas (32 disposals) banging the door down in the VFL.

Peter Wright kicked three goals in the twos but may have to bide his time with the Bombers forward line functioning well against the Dockers.

With Gold Coast's season over after a loss to West Coast, expect plenty of changes for the rest of the campaign.

Opportunities will likely be given to the likes of Oskar Faulkhead, Darcy Macpherson, Tom Berry and Connor Budarick in the coming weeks.

Several players are in line for omission including Malcolm Rosas, Sam Clohesy, Joel Jeffrey and Lloyd Johnston.

Alex Davies (suspension) is likely to come back straight into the senior side.

Melbourne vs. Port Adelaide teams

Melbourne's dismal season is over with finals ruled out after a heavy loss to the Western Bulldogs.

Steven May (rib) will miss at least this week, with Adam Tomlinson the likely replacement.

Several players could get opportunity including Matthew Jefferson, Kynan Brown, Bailey Laurie and Shane McAdam.

Jake Melksham is a chance to be axed after only getting three disposals, as is Daniel Turner and Kade Chandler.

Port Adelaide are flying after dismissing Sydney and their team should improve further with the addition of Todd Marshall (hip).

Ivan Soldo (knee) is also a chance to return.

Who will get dropped for Marshall? Charlie Dixon kicked three goals and Esava Ratugolea had five scoring shots in a tough decision for Ken Hinkley.

Carlton vs. Hawthorn teams

Suddenly there is plenty of significant injury issues at Carlton led by Charlie Curnow (ankle) facing a test.

Adam Cerra pinged a hammy and will be out until finals - if Carlton make it - and Matt Cottrell (shoulder) is out for the season.

Zac Williams (hamstring) and Orazio Fantasia (calf) should come in if they pass fitness tests.

Jaxon Binns and Jack Carroll continue to put their hand up for senior selection at VFL level.

Hawthorn will be reeling after choking against GWS in Canberra.

However, its unlikely to see many changes, although Cam McKenzie should return after picking up 33 touches in the VFL.

It's hard to see who is omitted but candidates include Nick Watson and Calsher Dear.

Richmond vs. St Kilda teams

Richmond's first game without Dustin Martin, who has hung up the boots on his magnificent career.

Tom Brown (foot) and Steely Green (ankle) will also be forced changes after succumbing to injury.

With so many injuries, it's hard to see who will come in, but the likes of Thomson Dow and Matthew Coulthard look primed for an opportunity.

It will be interesting to see Ross Lyon's reaction to St Kilda being thrashed by Brisbane.

Players that could be axed include Dan Butler, Paddy Dow and Riley Bonner.

Angus McLennan should keep his position after a solid debut.

The Saints' VFL affiliate had a bye on the weekend making it more challenging to see replacements.

Ryan Byrnes likely returns from illness, while Hugo Garcia and Arie Schoenmaker will be in contention.

Adelaide vs. Western Bulldogs teams

After an impressive performance without a win down at Geelong, it's hard to see the Crows making too many changes.

Brodie Smith was an emergency last week and could be elevated into the team, with Hugh Bond a possible omission.

The Bulldogs are another team that are flying and are likely to have a quiet night at selection.

Tom Liberatore (foot) looms as a potential out but the likes of Jack Macrae and Ryley Sanders are waiting in the wings with dominant VFL form.
