AFL Teams Round 13: Chopping Block - Melbourne to swing the axe ahead of King's Birthday? image

Ahead of the King's Birthday blockbuster with Collingwood, Simon Goodwin may well look to make a statement at the selection table after his Demons were thumped by 92 points against Fremantle in round 12.

Elsewhere, Adelaide have confirmed a debutant while the Eagles will have to manage without Harley Reid after his suspension was upheld.

Adelaide vs. Richmond teams

Matt Crouch has been ruled out for the season with shoulder surgery, opening the door for Billy Dowling to debut off the back of 29 disposals in the SANFL.

Josh Rachele has expressed concern over his midfield minutes after another quiet game in the loss to the Hawks, while Brayden Cook may be nervous after the disappointing loss.

With few options to replace them amid the struggles of the Crows' reserves, they may be spared this week.

For Richmond, Dustin Martin (managed), Mykelti Lefau (ACL) and Marlion Pickett (calf) come out, with Shai Bolton, Dion Prestia and Tim Taranto all set to return from injury, potentially forcing Tyler Sonsie out of the side.

Western Bulldogs vs. Brisbane teams

The Dogs should be buoyed by the returns of Tim Liberatore and Ed Richards, while Anthony Scott is also a possibility.

James Harmes comes out of the team with a hamstring injury, with James O'Donnell and Rory Lobb a chance to go straight back out, although Laitham Vandermeer is also under an injury cloud.

Brandon Starcevich returns for Brisbane, with Harry Sharp potentially the man to miss out after being the sub prior to their bye.

Hawthorn vs. GWS teams

Sam Mitchell is unlikely to tinker with the Hawks side too much after a solid run of form.

However, Finn Maginness (36 disposals), Harry Morrison (33), Nick Watson (4 goals) and Chad Wingard (4) were all productive in the VFL should Hawthorn wish to make any changes.

Club great Luke Breust has been on a lean run of late and may be among the first to make way.

Callan Ward and Callum Brown are both in line to come into the GWS team, with Stephen Coniglio among those ruled out with injury.

Should someone else make way, James Peatling is perhaps most likely.

West Coast vs. North Melbourne teams

The Eagles could welcome Jake Waterman back from injury, while they lose Harley Reid to suspension.

Mid-season draftee Jack Hutchinson has been confirmed to make his debut after five goals in the WAFL last week.

Jack Petruccelle and Zane Trew didn't make the most of their opportunities last week, with Jai Culley making a strong case for his first game of the season with 30 touches in the reserves.

For the Roos, Jy Simpkin and Hugh Greenwood have both been cleared to play.

Alastair Clarkson has no shortage of players who haven't been performing, with Jackson Archer, Charlie Lazzaro, Liam Shiels and Bailey Scott all quiet in their pre-bye loss to Port Adelaide, while Will Phillips was strong in the VFL last time out.

St Kilda vs. Gold Coast teams

Max King will need to pass a fitness test following a knee injury last week.

If he's to come out, Cooper Sharman may be recalled after three goals for Sandringham last week.

Brad Crouch is in line for a senior berth after three strong games in the VFL following knee surgery, while Mattaes Phillipou was also solid in the twos.

Dan Butler was the sub in the win over St Kilda, while Seb Ross was particularly quiet with just six touches.

For Gold Coast, Lloyd Johnston looks like missing again after being away from the club with illness for most of the week.

Brandon Ellis hasn't played in the AFL since round three but, after 32 possessions and two goals in the VFL, he may fancy his chances of a recall.

Sydney vs. Geelong teams

Tom McCartin is in line to return after more than a month out following a head knock, with Aaron Francis the one likely to make way.

The high-flying Swans are a tough team to break into, meaning Caiden Cleary's 39 touches in the VFL probably won't be enough to earn him a senior debut.

Patrick Dangerfield is expected to put his hand up for the Cats, while Ollie Henry could miss out with a hamstring issue.

Mark Blicavs and Jhye Clark are also available following one-week suspensions.

Sam Clohesy had 27 disposals and three goals in the VFL last week, while Brandon Parfitt was prolific with 33 touches.

Gary Rohan faces a nervous wait after a quiet return to the senior team, while recalled teammate Mark O'Connor could also make way.

Essendon vs. Carlton teams

Mason Redman will miss after picking up a hamstring injury, while Kyle Langford will face a fitness test.

Will Setterfield is almost certain to come in after a strong return from injury in the VFL.

Veteran ruckman Todd Goldstein also needs to prove his fitness.

Dylan Shiel picked up 25 disposals in the VFL should Brad Scott wish to make any changes, with Jade Gresham or last-time-out sub Elijah Tsatas among those in the mix to drop out.

At Carlton, Marc Pittonet will need to prove he's over a broken finger before making his way back.

Jack Carroll, who was the sub against Port, or Lachlan Cowan could be left out if the big man is deemed ready.

Collingwood vs. Melbourne teams

Reef McInnes is likely to return for the King's Birthday clash with the Demons.

After just four disposals in his return to the seniors, Ash Johnson could go straight back out, while Harvey Harrison also struggled to make an impact in the loss to the Dogs.

For Melbourne, several changes are expected following the thumping at the hands of Fremantle.

The Dees are hoping to welcome back Jacob van Rooyen, while Lachie Hunter will miss several weeks with a calf problem.

Caleb Windsor, Kysaiah Pickett and Shane McAdam failed to make a significant impact against the Dockers, while Daniel Turner was quiet in his return from injury.

Blake Howes and Andy Moniz-Wakefield both got plenty of footy in the VFL last week, while Tom Fullarton kicked two goals in his return from injury.

Koltyn Tholstrup also did his chances of a senior recall no harm with 21 touches, nine tackles and a goal.
