It's understandable if fans weren't paying full attention during the end of the first hour of Friday's SmackDown. Myself personally, I'm not a big fan of the Grayson Waller - DIY storyline; I don't find any of these WWE Superstars compelling on the mic and it seems like new boss Paul "Triple H" Levesque has them in their proper totem-pole place. In the midst of an interview up the ramp with the incomparable Kayla Braxton, a giant thud was heard up against the metal bay door.

As the fighters backed away, the door slowly rose to reveal the bright, setting Chicago sun enter the arena, it revealed the lifeless body of CM Punk at the feet of his attacker and nemesis Drew McIntyre. What Levesque has wrought this past week has been incredible. The arc began earlier in the spring and has escalated at rocket's pace to the best storyline in the WWE.

First, Punk entered the Clash at the Castle ring to interfere and cost McIntyre his heavyweight championship belt yet again, furthering their feud that hasn't even had an official match yet. In the post-Clash presser, Punk told the media he was close to returning to action soon. Two days later, a still fuming McIntyre took to the mic on Monday Night Raw to let the world know he was done with the WWE, sending waves through the fan community.

Punk then kicked off the Friday broadcast to love and adulation from his hometown crowd. His speech, gloating over forcing McIntyre to walk away from the promotion, was interrupted by Hall of Famer Paul Heyman warning him of The Bloodline's intent to attack. When that came to fruition, Punk was bailed out by Universal champ Cody Rhodes as story lines were being drawn. It was a great return to action for Punk... but wait, there's more. Half an hour later, Punk was crumpled on the ground, bloody as hell, and Twitter went wild in response.
