WWE Money in the Bank 2024: Hayes considers labeling himself ‘Legend Killer’ after pinning Orton image

Carmelo Hayes hasn’t let anyone forget he was the first-overall pick to SmackDown from NXT during the 2024 WWE Draft. That is quite an achievement, but it hasn’t translated to instant success in the ring — the talented rookie having often found himself on the losing end in the squared circle, that is until June 28 in Chicago.

That’s when Hayes secured an upset win over the Bloodline’s Tama Tonga and  “The Viper” (and “The Legend Killer”) Randy Orton by pinning a distracted Orton in a roll-up three count.

The uber-confident Hayes then made a rather bold proclamation.

“Yeah, I did pin Randy Orton, but what did you expect? I’m him,” he said, then delivering a line that made even Kayla Braxton cringe noticeably. “I mean he is a 14-time world champ and legend killer, maybe I should start calling myself the Legend Killer.”

Settle down, Beavis.

It would behoove Hayes to stay focused on the task at-hand, because it’s a daunting one come Toronto on July 6, seeing as he’s set to face off against not only the dangerous and legendary luchador, Andrade, but also a former member of The Bloodline who has “Main Event” written all over him: Jey Uso.

“Moving on to Money in the Bank, wow,” said Hayes. “I just realized that I’m so freaking good at what I do. I mean I’m just so good. I predicted I was gonna go to Money in the Bank. I predicted I was gonna be Melo in the Bank in Toronto.

“I’m gonna prove everything I say comes true. We did it!”

Spoiler: Hayes is going to have to kill more legends to grab that briefcase.
