WWE Champion Cody Rhodes reveals major injury at the hand of Jacob Fatu debut, won’t stop wrestling image

Is it a work … or is it real? There is no way to know at this point if what WWE Champion Cody Rhodes revealed recently is masterful kayfabe or a major injury but, either way, he’s not going anywhere following his beatdown on SmackDown at the hands of Jacob Fatu and The Bloodline.

Speaking from a house show in Bloomington, Illinois, one day after the assault by Fatu that ended with Fatu frog splashing off of the top turnbuckle onto Rhodes, who was laid out on the broadcaster’s table, the champ had a confession.

WHO IS JACOB FATU? SEE FULL BACKGROUND HERE.

He suffered two broken ribs from Fatu’s attack.

“A little scoop for you, Bloomington,” said Rhodes as he paced the ring following a victory in a main event match against an old friend turned rival in Shinsuke Nakamura.  “Last night, I did break two of my ribs.”

But if you’re wondering, and you are, if that means the fighting champion will be sidelined going forward, think again.

“The thought was, ‘Well, you can take off Bloomington. You can take off Kalamazoo. You can even take off next Friday, where the story began in 1978 — New York City,” said Rhodes. “And my answer to that was emphatically, 100 percent, ‘Hell no.’”

And there you have it, the man who once participated and won a Hell in a Cell match against Seth “Freaking” Rollins after suffering a torn pectoral muscle, will fight through a couple of cracked ribs to try and keep Fatu and The Bloodline from once again taking over the WWE.

His next televised appearance is scheduled for Madison Square Garden on the June 28 episode of SmackDown, though you can’t rule him out of a possible promo on RAW as well.

Either way, there will be no detour, because the Rhodes aren’t closed.
