SmackDown Recap (07/18/24): WWE analyst points out biggest issue with the Blue Brand, Bloodline image

Another episode of SmackDown is in the books on the road to Summerslam, and it was a mixed bag for the WWE. On one hand, Andrade and Carmelo Hayes delivered an absolute banger of a match to open the show, and it set the stage for what should have been a great episode that provided plenty of build for the premium live event.

It couldn’t save what happened in the end though, in what is beginning to feel like a rerun to a syndicated sitcom rather than the usual exciting twists and turns we’ve come to expect regarding WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and The Bloodline.

And New! Wrestling discusses the outcome of the show below.

The good news is that SmackDown has two more episodes left before Summerslam so a curveball or two is still possible, and needed, and the July 19 show did balance itself with the furthering of the Bayley vs. Nia Jax and (vs.?) Tiffany Stratton storyline while getting the greatness of Michin involved as well.

The anti-hero version of Bayley has arrived, and man is that fun — finally adding a thrilling extra dimension to her latest face turn and championship reign. And then there was the cookoff between LA Knight and Logan Paul, both smoking each other equally on the mic before confirming their Summerslam bout and then getting physical in the ring.

That was sensational.

But SmackDown will need to pick up the pace if it doesn’t want to get gapped by RAW and NXT again next week.
