John Cena Retirement Tour: CM Punk tells WWE legend he will ‘drag him out of retirement’ one day image

By now you’ve heard the bombshell news that John Cena, one of the most decorated talents in the history of professional wrestling and the WWE, has officially announced his plans to retire at the end of the 2025 calendar year — news he dropped in Toronto at this year’s Money in the Bank premium live event.

That means Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas will be his final go at the Showcase of the Immortals, that is unless CM Punk has something to say about it.

Speaking from his post-MITB press conference, after reappearing from a weeks-long hiatus to make Drew McIntyre’s life a living Hell in Canada, Punk spoke on Cena’s announcement.

He holds Cena in extremely high regard, but also told him to not get too comfy.

"I texted him right away and I said, ‘Don’t leave before you say hi to me.’ He texted back, ‘Haha, have a good one tonight.’ I immediately took that as, ‘Piss off, I’m leaving.’

“I know he’s busy. He’s filming Peacemaker. I figured he was leaving right away. I was pleasantly surprised to run into him afterward. I told him, ‘I’ll be the guy that drags him out of retirement.’ This ‘retirement’ that he says he’s going to adhere to, and this is it and when the final one happens that’s going to be it — 15 years, I’ll drag him out of retirement.

“Cena, to my career, means a lot. I don’t think there [are] many people up in that rare air, where if you talk about my career, I feel you have to talk about John. It makes me feel proud that I think if you talk about John’s career, I think you have to talk about me. We’re married in that respect.

“I’m proud of him. He gets to go out on his terms. I know that is important. I’m looking forward to what he does. I told him, ‘If it’s going to be one more time, we have to do it at least one more time.’"

Everyone would thoroughly enjoy the pop Cena would get if he were to ever come out of retirement once it’s fully installed, and it quite possibly could be Punk who woos him back into the squared circle, but that’s all consideration for far down the road; and both superstars have plenty on their plates as-is.

And that’s saying the very least.
