CM Punk Contract: WWE superstar appears to address rumors, new report refutes ‘forever’ deal image

It looks like Mr. Pipe Bomb himself is thoroughly enjoying his second ride in the WWE, so much so that he might want it to be the only one he’s on for the rest of his career, that is rumors are true that Punk wants a “forever” deal with the promotion.

A new report suggests those rumors are being exaggerated, though.

Dave Meltzer, speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, addressed the rumors head on and though he didn’t entirely debunk them, he provided credible and needed context.

“So there’s the story going around about CM Punk renegotiating his contract. It’s really overblown. What happened when CM Punk came in, they had a short-term deal which is expiring now. Now, there are rollovers in the deal, so there’s not a hurry that they have to sign him because the deal goes longer.

“But they knew all along that right around now would be when they would be renegotiating any deals… It was kind of known that that was going to happen now. Everyone is getting along fine.

“There’s nothing wrong with it or anything like that. It’s a story, but it’s not a story that everybody thinks it is ... They're just hammering down the terms that everyone knew they were going to do at a certain point ….. basically get everyone back on the page because they both know where they want to be.

“Hopefully, [he] doesn’t get hurt again, obviously. But he’s in a good position.”

Punk himself took to social media with a post that could rightfully be interpreted as a response to the rumors.

“I used to rush to defend myself against false accusations, but now I watch to see who believes it, so I know who to cut off first,” he penned in an Instagram story.

And there you have it: Punk and the WWE remain on great footing, but put a pin in any talks of him signing away his eternity just yet.

It’s been nearly a year now since his explosive return and there are only positive reports coming out of the locker room regarding Punk, leading Paul “Triple H” Levesque himself to heap praise upon the Second City Saint at every turn while also featuring him in a longstanding blood feud with Drew McIntyre (and now reinserting his feud with Seth Rollins into the mix for Summerslam).

Punk has only wrestled in one match, Royal Rumble, tearing his tricep in the process but, despite the injury, he’s continually been one of the top draws for the company — constantly maintaining his push and not shelving him due to his injury.

Much like his good and longtime friend Cody Rhodes, current WWE Champion, Punk returned from AEW and has zero regrets about his decision; and considering the toxic 10-year cloud that once existed between Punk and WWE, it was really anyone’s guess how this latest ride would end.

The answer is … well … no time soon.

Even if it isn’t “forever”.
