The Olympics are here and it's time for the top women's basketball players in the world to hit the court.
The U.S. women's basketball team is carrying the weight of history after seven straight Olympic gold medals with an eighth in sight in Paris. The team hasn't lost an Olympic game since 1992 but its biggest challenge will be the limited time to practice as a team, with just two exhibition games to jell before arriving in Paris.
Team USA is coached by the Minnesota Lynx's Cheryl Reeve and led by six-time Olympian Diana Taurasi, Breanna Stewart, A'ja Wilson and first-time Olympians Sabrina Ionescu, Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas. Brittney Griner is also making her return to the Olympic team.
Stars abound elsewhere, too, as Germany will be making its first Olympic appearance led by Nyara and Satou Sabally. The Australian Opals team will get a huge boost with the return of Lauren Jackson, a four-time WNBA MVP playing in her fifth Olympics.
France secured a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and has a blend of experienced and young talents, led by Gabby Williams and Marine Johannès. The Japanese team will be looking to build upon their silver medal from Tokyo and Belgium is a dark-horse team, led by Emma Meesseman.
