Caitlin Clark's second test as a professional player proved a challenging one for the Fever rookie.

The former Iowa standout struggled to find her rhythm amid a wave of Liberty defenders, particularly Betnijah Laney-Hamilton. Clark dropped nine points on 2-of-8 shooting as Indiana fell 102-66 to New York on Thursday night.

Clark was overshadowed by Liberty MVP Breanna Stewart, who poured in 31 points (12-of-21 shooting) to power the New Yorkers.

She wasn't alone, though. Four of the Liberty's five starters dropped double-digits, while their defense — traditionally viewed as one of the team's few weak points —held the Fever to just 36.7 percent shooting.

As expected, there were flashes of brilliance from Clark. She left her fingerprints on other aspects of the game, corralling seven rebounds and six assists on the night. A first triple-double doesn't seem all that far away.

However, she'll have to get used to the assignments she's receiving sooner rather than later. Teams appear to be revolving their game plans around shutting her down, sending waves of defenders and giving her nary an inch to rise up. She clanked six of her seven three-point attempts on Thursday.

Nevertheless, the marathon continues for Clark and her Fever teammates. They'll turn their sights to New York once more on Saturday. Perhaps that will bring a better showing, too. It can't get much worse, right?

End of fourth quarter: Liberty 102, Fever 66

9:01 p.m.: Clark pulled as the Fever concede this one to the Liberty with about about four minutes left. Another uneven showing by Clark, who finishes the day with nine points on 2-of-8 shooting.

8:50 p.m: The Liberty proved why they’re championship contenders, stringing together a 12-0 run to start the frame as the lead bubble back to 20.

End of third quarter: Liberty 67, Fever 56

8:41 p.m.: Slowly but surely, the Fever get back into it! That 23-point lead evaporated to just 11 off the back of Clark's scoring outburst.

8:38 p.m.: Clark sinks her first triple of the night, stepping beyond Leonie Liebich before dropping from three.

8:36 p.m.: Been a really challenging night for Clark, who dropped two free throws — her first points since the first quarter.

8:32 p.m.: Beautiful touch pass by Ionescu to find Nyara Sabally, who streaks past Boston to sink a layup on the fast break. Dominant showing by the Fever through nearly three full quarters of play.

8:21 p.m.: The third quarter begins and it's more of a steady dose of Stewart, who drops two baskets to pull herself up to 24 points on the night. Impressive showing by the reigning WNBA MVP.

End of second quarter: Liberty 48, Fever 31

8:01 p.m.: Clark picks up her third foul as the quarter nears its end. Feels like she's had a calmer showcase thus far. However, the Fever still have their work cut out for them. They're down 48-31.

8:00 p.m.: Brilliant bounce feed from Clark helps Boston get on the board in the second quarter. Been a challenging one thus far for the South Carolina product — she's 3-of-9 so far. Maybe that can get her going.

7:56 p.m.: Stewie does it again! Eclipses Boston on the drive before sending her shot caroming down the other end of the floor. What a play!

7:55 p.m.: Tremendous block by Stewart, who reads Boston's tell and races into the paint to swat away the Fever's stars hook shot. She's doing it on both ends of the floor in this one: she's already got 18 points.

7:42 p.m.: The Fever are finding their footing with their bench unit. Lexie Hull follows up Kristy Wallace's reverse layup with a corner triple. Indiana has cut New York's lead to just four.

End of first quarter: Liberty 25, Fever 16

7:33 p.m.: The offensive output is percolating in this one. Stewie dropped another basket — this one a step-back three-pointer — to extend the Liberty's lead. She's got 11 in the first quarter.

7:30 p.m.: Basketball poetry by Street, who spins beyond her marker before hanging up a left handed layup over Boston. The reigning Rookie of the Year just dropped a nice basket on Stewart. She made sure to return the favor.

7:29 p.m.: Strong start by Sabrina Ionescu in this one. The two-time All-Star is 3-of-6 with seven points early on.

7:28 p.m.: After a lengthy review, the refs decide to let bygones be bygones: neither Boston nor Jones receive a technical for their part in the brief spat. Boston's off to the free throw line while Jones is headed to the bench.

7:25 p.m.: Boston and Jonquel Jones get into a shoving match with one another after Jones hooked Boston's arm on the layup. The second-year center hasn't had much space and time in the one at Jones' behest. Referees are reviewing to see if it's worthwhile to hand out any technicals.

7:18 p.m.: Brilliant two-man play by Clark and Boston, who combine with a give-and-go before Clark hits Katie Lou Samuelson for a wide-open triple. Really heady play by the last two No. 1 selections.

7:16 p.m.: Clark's first shot of the game finds the target. She overcomes Laney-Hamilton's strength before flicking a teardrop into the net.

7:14 p.m.: Stewart opens the game with a pair of jumpers from deep in the paint. New York looking as menacing as one would expect early.

7:13 p.m.: Liberty win the tip and away we go! Looks like it's Betnijah Laney-Hamilton who will be given the primary task of handling Clark in the game's opening moments.

7:10 p.m.: Quite the introduction for Clark, who is given the marquee fifth spot during player intros. Tip-off is mere moments away.
