Already one of the WNBA's biggest draws, Angel Reese moved one step closer to world domination Monday after it was announced that the Sky rookie purchased a stake in DC Power Football Club, a new, Washington D.C.-based professional women's soccer team that will debut in the USL Super League this summer.
“I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” Reese said in a statement. “We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community.”
It's unclear how much Reese invested into the club, which is set to be coached by former DC United player Frédéric Brillant. It isn't expected to be much, however. Other athletes across the DMV, including players from the Nationals and Capitals, are also expected to join in on investing into the franchise, as well.
At present, Power FC is little more than a black-and-red emblem. The club doesn't have a general manager nor players. The Brillant-coached side also has yet to find a place to practice, although DC United's Leesburg training ground hasn't been ruled out.

Nevertheless, Reese's move reaffirms her status not just as a women's basketball star, but an advocate for women's sports as a whole. It also serves as a way to give back to her local community — Reese was born and raised just a stone's throw away from where Power FC is slated to play games.

Reese was raised in Randallstown, Maryland, a majority Black community located in Baltimore County. She turned out for Charm City powerhouse St. Frances Academy, a Black Catholic school located in the heart of Baltimore City, earning national acclaim and five-star billing while leading the Panthers to four straight conference championships.
Reese is a Baltimorean through-and-through. She loves blue crabs, Old Bay and Lamar Jackson. Reese grew up studying game from another Charm City icon: Dunbar alum Muggsy Bogues.
Nevertheless, she has developed an affinity for the wider DMV region as a whole. As a youth, she attended Mystics games, while her AAU club — Team Takeover — was based out in the District. She spent her first two collegiate seasons at the University of Maryland, just a few metro stops away from D.C. proper.
All of that is to say that, although Reese is a native Baltimorean, she certainly has some wider DMV ties.

After being selected by Chicago with the seventh pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese agreed to a four-year, $324,383 deal with her new franchise. She'll earn an average annual salary of $81,096 and her starting salary during her rookie season is $73,439, per Spotrac.

It's unclear quite what Reese's net worth is following her selection in this year's WNBA draft. However, On3 estimated that Reese's NIL deals were worth $1.8 million in college. Given her recent agreements with Reebok and Beats by Dre, it seems reasonable to believe that value may have increased in the months since her LSU departure.
