The Acolyte is finally here and Star Wars fans are surely wondering one simple question: can I watch it for free?
Disney hit the jackpot when Lucasfilm sold Star Wars for $4.05 billion in 2012. The rich archive brought in old and new viewers and opened the door to endless creative options to explore. Star Wars fans have already seen that with The Mandalorian, Andor, and Ashoka.
The Acolyte, set to debut on June 4, will be another entry in the ever-expanding franchise, this time transporting fans 100 years before The Phantom Menace, prior to the introduction to any member of the Skywalker family.
It takes place at the tail end of the High Republic Era, when the Jedi were at the height of their power, and there was peace. It is considered a mystery-thriller that opens up secrets about the Jedi, perhaps even casting some doubts on the long-time Star Wars protagonists.
“I think [that's] the glory of (creator) Leslye’s (Headland) writing,” Charlie Barnett told Screen Rant regarding the show and his character, Yord Fandar. “I've had a lot of fun being able to play him because every time I watched Jedi growing up, they were perfect. It was like, ‘These are gods!’ But seeing the raw edges of their humanity, even going back to some of the movies and seeing Anakin struggle with these things, and Obi-wan talking to him and expressing the same kind of feelings?

“I love those blended, human dynamics. Those are the parts of Yord that I really had fun exploring.”
Along with Barnett, the show features Lee Jung-Jae, Dafnee Keen, Amandla Stenberg, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Can I watch Star Wars The Acolyte for free?
Star Wars fans can watch The Acolyte on Disney+.
Unfortunately, Disney+ does not have a free trial. A free trial of seven days ended in June 2020, months after its initial launch.
"The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own," a Disney spokesperson told CNET at the time.
And yet there are still plenty of options for Star Wars fans looking to explore the High Republic. Disney+ has three main plans – only Disney+, a duo with Hulu, or a trio with ESPN+.
