In Kingstown, Michigan, keeping the peace is a literal job. "Mayor of Kingstown," which debuted in 2021, has captivated audiences for two seasons. The third season of the crime thriller series expects to continue its entertaining run.

"Mayor of Kingstown" looks into America’s prison system and those who act as liaisons between prisoners and the community of Kingstown. The McLusky family runs the Kingstown's prison facilities, attempting to keep the peace while also involving themselves in shady business dealings. Themes within the show include racism, corruption, and inequality.

The synopsis for season three, per The Star-Telegram, is as follows:

“A series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob sets up shop in the city, and a drug war rages inside and outside prison walls. The pressure is on Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) to end the war but things get complicated when a familiar face from his incarcerated past threatens to undermine the Mayor’s attempts to keep the peace among all factions.”

One of the featured characters on the show is Jeremy Renner of Marvel Studios fame. He plays Michael McLusky, the eponymous mayor, who took over for his brother.

There was doubt about Renner’s ability to continue with the show after being run over by a 14,330-pound snowplow at his home in Nevada in January 2023. He suffered over 30 broken bones and rib issues and was stuck in the intensive care unit.

Renner’s recovery, though, was all but miraculous. He credited his work, his family and his friends as a big motivator for him in his journey.

“I had a lot of people helping, listening to my body as much as I had to listen to my body. And we did it as a unit. It took all of us to kind of get through it,” Renner said via Yahoo. “You gotta just take the Band-Aid off, right, and go for it. Like anything, you’ve got to be courageous enough. What am I going to do, just fail? Then everybody’s out of a job. That sucks.

“And we’re not going to allow that to happen either, especially after the long break that a lot of people had with the strikes — the writers’ strike, the actors’ strike — and there's a lot of people out of a job for a long time. So that was also really important to me — to get people employed again. And important for me to get on my feet again.”
