Olympic and Women's World Cup champion Heather O'Reilly has signed with Arsenal Ladies FC, the club announced Wednesday.
O'Reilly, the eighth-most capped player in U.S. women’s national team history, joins the London-based club on an 18-month deal. She played last season with FC Kansas City of the NWSL.

"Having come over to Arsenal last year to train, I was very impressed with the club,” O'Reilly told the club’s official website. “The facilities are world class and they have a tradition of excellence at the club that I wanted to be a part of."
The 32-year-old midfielder retired from international play in September after a career that saw her make 231 appearances for the national team, scoring 47 goals, along with winning three Olympic gold medals and the 2015 World Cup.
"She is a world-class player and one of the most respected players in the U.S. Her determination and character will make a big difference for this club," Arsenal Ladies manager Pedro Martinez Losa said. "She will bring here a legacy of values, hard work and professionalism which will also help our young players to develop. It is a privilege for us to be able to bring her to Arsenal Ladies."
O'Reilly becomes the third well-known player from the U.S. women's national team to recently head overseas, after Crystal Dunn signed with the Chelsea Ladies and Alex Morgan joined Lyon in France. Morgan's deal is a loan, and she is expected to return to the Orlando Pride at some point during the NWSL's 2017 season.
