Not a lot went well for Tiger Woods on Saturday.
Needing a tremendous round to climb back into contention, Woods didn't get anywhere near that, shooting an even-par 72 to wipe away any small glimmer of hope of winning The Players Championship.
After a 1-under Friday performance that was strong outside of one disastrous hole, Woods started his round with three bogeys on the front nine and struggled with his putting early on, turning several birdie chances into pars and par chances into bogeys.

Most of Woods’ birdies throughout the tournament have come on the back nine, and Saturday wasn’t an exception. He had three, including one on hole 17 — which he quadruple bogied on Friday — that wiped out some of his early struggles.
At the conclusion of his round, Woods was eight strokes back of the leaders and in a tie for 41st place, putting him towards the middle of the pack of those who made the cut.

Hole 18: Par 4, 467 yards
The approach shot goes into the green side bunker, but Woods rebounds with an accurate pitch and closes his round with a par.
Hole 17: Par 3, 127 yards
Beautiful tee shot that drops within 3 feet of the hole and he easily birdies the hole.
Hole 16: Par 5, 537 yards
Woods finally takes advantage of a par-five and gets his second birdie of the round. Now we will see if he can overcome his struggles from yesterday on No. 17.
Hole 15: Par 4, 449 yards
The tough 30-foot putts just aren't falling for Woods. He settles for another par.
Hole 14: Par 4, 468 yards
An approach shot that rolled past the hole didn't give Woods much of a chance for birdie, and he winds up with his fourth par of the back nine.
Hole 13: Par 3, 188 yards
Woods can't make it two in a row and settles for a par. The leaders have yet to tee off, but Woods is 11 strokes back.
Hole 12: Par 4, 281 yards
It's a birdie! Woods drives the green on the short par-four and gets a routine two-putt to gain a stroke.
Hole 11: Par 5, 546 yards
Woods goes from a fairway bunker to a greenside bunker, but is still able to have a 10-foot birdie chance. He misses and still hasn't got on the board.
Hole 10: Par 4, 419 yards
No fairways hit on the hole, but Woods manages a strong pitch and makes an easy par putt.
Hole 9: Par 5, 586 yards
Woods plays it safe, laying up to ensure he gets on the green in three, but the putt rims out once again and it's a par. Disappointing birdie-less front nine for Woods.

Hole 8: Par 3, 238 yards
Make that three bogeys on the front nine for Woods. A tee shot into the bunker spelled the beginning of a tough hole.
Hole 7: Par 4, 432 yards
The approach shot on No. 7 went into the bunker, but a great out from the sand allows for an easy par tap-in to avoid further trouble.
Hole 6: Par 4, 390 yards
And it's another missed birdie opportunity for Woods. He rims the 12-foot putt off the hole and taps in for par. Not doing himself any favors.
65 feet of apex. 👌

Hole 5: Par 4, 471 yards
Woods overcomes a drive into the fairway bunker to recover and par his second straight hole.
Hole 4: Par 4, 371 yards
Another missed putt from within 10 feet. Rinse and repeat. That might have been Woods' best chance thus far for a birdie.
Hole 3: Par 3, 155 yards
Suboptimal start to the round. Woods bogeys his second consecutive hole after his tee shot goes into the fairway next to the green. The five-foot par putt is once again missed.
Hole 2: Par 5, 540 yards
Rough hole for Woods. He went into the rough off the tee, then to a fairway bunker before winding up in the fringe for a long lag putt. Five-foot putt for par is no good and he bogeys the par-five.
Hole 1: Par 4, 440 yards
Par to start the round for Woods. He had a birdie putt from inside 17 feet but couldn't get it to go.
