Wimbledon 2016: Milos Raonic ends Sam Querrey's fairytale image

Canada's Milos Raonic ended Sam Querrey's Wimbledon fairytale with a superb performance to win Wednesday's quarterfinal 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

Raonic sealed a third grand slam semifinal of his career — and second at the All England Club — with a strong performance from the baseline, mixed with moments of magic at the net.

Querrey, the tournament's 28th seed, was the last American remaining in the men's competition. Two U.S. women will play on Thursday for a shot at Saturday's championship match. Serena Williams, No. 1 and defending champion, is in one semifinal match. Venus Williams, No. 8, is in the other.

Raonic is No. 6 in the men's draw. Roger Federer, who fought his way to a five-set victory against Miran Cilic, is No. 3.

On the other side of the draw, Andy Murray needed five sets to knock off France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych overpower Lucas Pouille to set up their Friday semifinal match.

Querrey ended Novak Djokovic's hopes in the third round.

Raonic reached the Wimbledon semifinals in 2014. He also reached the semis in this year's Australian Open.

This was the first Grand Slam quarterfinal match for Querrey.

The big difference for Raonic appears to be the tutelage of John McEnroe, which was seen in his mastery of grass-court tennis in Wednesday's match. Raonic acknowledged McEnroe's help in a post-match interview.

"He's added a little bit of demeanor change on the court, maybe a bit more positive and getting more energy out of myself," he said. "And obviously I volleyed great today so he's helped out with that."
