In the 30th overall matchup between the Williams sisters, Serena came away victorious, defeating Venus 6-1, 6-2 on Friday in the third round of the U.S. Open in Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in New York's Flushing Meadows.

She twisted her right ankle early in the first set as Venus Williams, the 16th seed, went on to even the set 1-1. Serena limped through the rest of the set, but took the next five games in dominating fashion.
The second set was much of the same, although Serena was still slightly limping.
After Friday's matchup, Serena now holds an overall 18-12 advantage with an 11-5 advantage in majors, according to the U.S. Tennis Association .
Serena Williams moves on to face Estonia's Kaia Kanepi in the fourth round. Kanepi is fresh off a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over Rebecca Peterson.
