The final match of the 2021 US Open women's singles tournament is officially here and it features two of the unlikeliest finalists: Two teenagers. It's the just-turned-19 Leylah Fernandez against 18-year-old Emma Raducanu. Fernandez entered the US Open ranked 73rd in the WTA singles rankings while Raducanu came in at 150th.

Back when the women's draw was revealed on Aug. 26 no one had these two penciled in as the last women standing. The chatter was about who wasn't there as Americans Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Sofia Kenin were all out. Fernandez's name was down in the bottom of the draw; Raducano, she wasn't even listed. Why? She had to actually finish qualifying for the main draw.

Now the two teenage sensations, who both are Canadian-born (Fernandez is from Laval, Que., and Raducanu was born in Toronto but calls Great Britain home), are on the precipice of their first career Grand Slam crown. It also marks the first meeting of two teenagers in the final since Serena Williams beat Martina Hingis in New York in 1999.
