It's a new year and the first official Grand Slam has arrived. While there was much uncertainty regarding whether this event would happen, things are officially a go beginning on Sunday, Feb. 7.
World No. 1's Ash Barty and Novak Djokovic have the top seeds. Djokovic is the reigning champ on the men's side while American Sofia Kenin took the trophy home last year for the women. Kenin is seeded fourth this year and 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, after 15 months away, is set to make her return.
Roger Federer opted to skip this year's tournament but Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal are scheduled to participate, for now. Williams withdrew from a tune-up tournament on Friday citing a shoulder injury but is confident she'll be ok. Nadal did not play in the ATP Cup for Spain due to back issues.
The tournament is also filled with youngsters that will be looking to make 2021 their year. One rising star will be out when the first round concludes as No. 11 Dennis Shapovalov and Jannik Sinner meet in a clash of young guns.
