A year after losing out to Shinji Okazaki, Son has finally regained back the honour of being the best overseas Asian player of the year.

Okazaki's heroics for Leicester City was too much for Son to overtake back in the 2016 AFC Annual Awards but 2017 turned out to be a far different story.

Spurs 14/1 to win CL

Son's Tottenham Hotspur had another strong season in the English Premier League, finishing second behind eventual winners, Chelsea in the 2016-17 season.

In a prolific season in which the South Korean appeared more than 40 times for his club side, 21 goals was a superb return from the former Bayer Leverkusen man.

Their success last season made sure of another Champions League appearance for Son and his club in the 2017-18 season.

However Spurs have been in patchy form of late and suffered their fourth league defeat of the campaign in last night's 1-2 reverse Leicester.

Son was also instrumental in helping South Korea to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, as they earned a direct qualification after finishing in second spot of Group A in the third round of the Asian zone, behind fellow qualifiers, Iran.
