USA captain Clint Dempsey is hoping to spend most of his time hitting the back of the net in Brazil this month, but soon he’ll go back to hitting the studio as he prepares to release his first full rap album.
The 31-year-old Texas native is also known by the name ‘Deuce' and made his musical debut shortly before World Cup 2006 with the release of the single 'Don’t Tread.'
Dempsey has now made a little return to the music scene with the release his full debut, a 13-track album titled ‘The Redux.’
"We just were having fun with it and it ended up being an album,” he told the Wall Street Journal.
The Don't Tread track from 2006 featured well-respected local rapper Big Hawk, who was a major player on the Houston rap scene before his untimely death in 2006.
"We just wanted to do something fun and make some music," rap partner XO told Sporting News/Goal. "We think it's good and wanted to put it out there to see if people like it, and we're also using the sales of the album for a good cause, donating to the East Texas Food Bank."
Dempsey’s first single from the album will be called ‘It’s Poppin’ and features a ‘screwed’ chorus. It has been leaked by DJ Skee, who has produced mixtapes for the likes of Snoop Dogg and The Game.
You can check out the full album here and download it when it drops Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.
