Who does USA play in Gold Cup quarterfinals 2023? USMNT to play Canada in Cincinnati image

With the 6-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday in Charlotte securing not only a spot in the knockout stage but also the top spot in Group A, the USMNT moved on to the quarterfinals of the competition.

As the defending champion, it was just the first step for the U.S. as they look to make another deep run in the CONCACAF championship tournament and give themselves a shot at what would be their fourth straight continental title.

Interim head coach B.J. Callaghan has mixed in a combination of young, rising talent and established veterans to solid results. The U.S. played to a draw with Jamaica in the opening round, but they managed to regroup and secure consecutive 6-0 victories over Caribbean opponents St. Kitts & Nevis and Trinidad & Tobago.

Now, the opposition gets tougher as they advance deeper into the tournament, and they'll need to prove the slip against Jamaica was an anomaly, instead of a more accurate reflection of where this USMNT roster for the Gold Cup stands.

USA will face Canada in Gold Cup quarterfinals

The United States play their first knockout match at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 9 in Cincinnati, matched up against the Group D runner-up.

While they were unaware of their opponent upon the conclusion of the Trinidad & Tobago victory, that was determined as Group D concluded play Tuesday, solidifying Canada as their quarterfinal opponent.

Canada had to beat Cuba to advance, winning 4-2 to complete a very shaky group stage showing.

The Canada roster is bereft of their top talent, with Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, Stephen Eustaquio, Alistair Johnston, Ismael Kone, and Sam Adekugbe all missing, plus an injury to goalkeeper Milan Borjan.
