West Ham vs. Sevilla result: Yarmolenko extra-time winner sends Hammers to quarterfinals image

Ukraine international Andriy Yarmolenko was the hero as West Ham reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League with an extra-time victory against Sevilla at London Stadium.

West Ham prevailed 2-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate, with Tomas Soucek having found the net in regulation time.

The Hammers benefited from a fervent home atmosphere and they responded with a spirited display as they deservedly made it through.

Sevilla caused problems for West Ham at times, but David Moyes's side defended diligently and could now potentially face Barcelona or Rangers in the last eight.

Michail Antonio's constant running made matters difficult for Sevilla and West Ham prevailed in their first major European quarterfinal for over 40 years.

  • Atalanta
  • Barcelona
  • Braga
  • Eintracht Frankfurt
  • Lyon
  • Rangers
  • RB Leipzig

Full-time: West Ham have done it as they make it through to the quarterfinals of the Europa League — what an incredible moment for David Moyes's side. Ukraine international Andriy Yarmolenko was the hero on a memorable night in East London.

117th min.: Now Issa Diop comes on for Fornals. West Ham will have to defend a corner as they look to see the game out. The Hammers deal with it and now Ryan Fredericks is on for Antonio, who gets an excellent reception.

115th min.: West Ham bring on Noble for Lanzini as they look to see out the game.

111th min.: GOAL! West Ham 2-0 Sevilla (2-1 agg.): West Ham have the lead and it's the Ukrainian Andriy Yarmolenko who scores what could to be the decisive goal. What a moment.

108th min.: A wasted effort from Oliver Torres. Just prior to that Antonio misplaced a pass when well placed as he looked to play in Fornals, who was in an excellent position.  Yet another switch for Sevilla as Gudelj, who was struggling with cramp, is replaced by Carmona.

105th min.: Another change for Sevilla as Montiel comes on for Navas. Will there be a winner in the second period of extra time? Rice shoots well over.

105th min.: It's half time in extra-time and it remains 1-1 on aggregate. West Ham were by the far the better team in that half. Kevin Nolan, who is part of the West Ham coaching staff, was booked for expressing his anger with a decision from the referee.

98th min.: Soucek comes close with a header after Dawson's knockdown following a corner. Some West Ham fans thought that it was in. Another alteration for Sevilla as Cruz comes on for Martial.

95th min.: There's another change for Sevilla, with Munir replacing Corona. Munir was on the scoresheet for the Spanish side in the first leg. Could he make an impact again on this occasion?

91st min.: Rafa Mir replaces En-Nesyri for Sevilla as extra-time gets underway. Ben Johnson sends in a cross for West Ham, but it's easily gathered by Bono.

90th min.: After an intense 90 minutes, the game heads to extra-time as it finishes 1-1 on aggregate. Soucek's goal means West Ham are 1-0 up on the night but we will now have another half an hour of action, with penalties potentially to follow.

85th min.: Benrahma, who is about to be replaced by Yarmolenko, cuts inside but his effort is week. Extra-time is edging ever closer now.

82nd min.: Soucek's header goes onto the roof of the net, with the game appearing to be heading towards extra-time unless there is late drama here.

77th min.: There's a lot of tension inside the London Stadium now. Sevilla have stepped up a gear in the last five minutes. Will West Ham be able to withstand the pressure and potentially push forward themselves?

70th min.: It's an impressive break from Sevilla as En-Nesyri finds Corona, but the latter's effort goes over. Sevilla will hope that they can now get more of a foothold in the game after a sustained period of West Ham dominance.

65th min.: West Ham are really increasing the pressure on Sevilla now as they win another corner. Sevilla look a little bit nervous.

62nd min.: Lanzini is denied twice in quick succession by Bono, with the flag then being raised for offside. Impressive pressure from West Ham.

59th min.: It's a very tense encounter but West Ham are looking assured in possession as they go in search of a second goal.

54th min.: Corona plays the ball in towards En-Nesyri, whose effort lacks conviction. Sevilla now send on Oliver Torres in place of Rakitic as they look to add more directness to their play.

52nd mins.: West Ham are continuing to create openings. Antonio has a shot blocked and then Cresswell blazes over.

45th min.: West Ham commence the second half in lively fashion. Rice embarks on a run and the ball falls to Soucek, whose effort is saved. Rice then shoots off target.

Halftime: West Ham 1, Sevilla 0

Halftime: West Ham 1-0 Sevilla (1-1 agg.): It has been a determined display from West Ham so far and they merited that goal from Soucek, which has pulled the tie level. West Ham have a lot of momentum and they will now be looking to take that into the second period.

44th min.: En-Nesyri heads wide, with the Sevilla striker looking incredibly frustrated. Half time is now rapidly approaching.

38th min.: GOAL! West Ham 1-0 Sevilla. West Ham take the lead, sparking wild celebrations at London Stadium. Antonio sends in a cross and Soucek is there to meet it with an excellent header into the far corner.

32nd min.: Now Sevilla squander a good opportunity, with Jordan shooting wide when well placed. The game has started to open up a bit now, which could work in West Ham's favour. Lanzini is booked for a challenge on Delaney. He will miss West Ham's next match in the competition if they progress.

28th min.: Benrahma plays the ball in and it's an excellent opportunity for Antonio but he can't get good contact on the ball and Sevilla deal with the danger.

25th min.: Sevilla are now very much in control of possession, with West Ham having to do a lot of chasing. Areola has to make an excellent stop to thwart En-Nesyri. There was a fantastic backheel from Martial earlier in the move. Kounde then goes for goal from distance, with Areola saving at the second attempt.

19th min.: Declan Rice concedes a free-kick from which Jordan's effort is deflected over. Sevilla have started to up the ante a little.

15th min.: Michail Antonio's direct runs are causing plenty of problems for the Sevilla defence. If West Ham are to prevail tonight it seems likely that he will have a major part to play.

11th min.: Pablo Fornals has an effort blocked following an intricate West Ham move. The Hammers have started the game well and look a threat down the left flank in particular.

7th min.: Martial shows his pace and the ball eventually falls to Jesus Navas, whose effort goes over. West Ham have been typically committed so far.

4th min.: West Ham are controlling possession well in the early stages as they look to find an opening.

3.55 p.m.: There is an excellent atmosphere at London Stadium ahead of kick off. Will West Ham be able to turn over the 1-0 deficit?

3.14 p.m.:

2.56 p.m.: Sevilla team:

2.38 p.m.: West Ham team:

2:00 p.m.: Could Anthony Martial be the X-factor against West Ham? He's played 13 times against the Hammers, according to stats compiled by TalkSport, and he has six goals and five assists.
