The second round of group-stage fixtures at Euro 2024 begins on Wednesday, with the second game of the day seeing Germany face Hungary in Stuttgart.

The host nation got the tournament off to a flyer by thrashing 10-man Scotland 5-1 to take early control of Group A. Jamal Musiala was particularly impressive as Julian Nagelsmann's side laid down a marker to the rest of the continent.

Hungary were beaten 3-1 by Switzerland in their opening game, which makes this clash with Germany potentially critical to their hopes of reaching the Round of 16. Another defeat could prove fatal to their chances of going through before their final group match against Scotland.

However, all is not lost for Marco Rossi's team. Surprisingly, they are unbeaten in their past three meetings with Germany, having drawn 2-2 in the group stage of Euro 2020 and 1-1 in the UEFA Nations League before beating them 1-0 in that same competition in Leipzig back in 2022.

The Sporting News has the key details ahead of this clash, including kickoff time, where to watch, the latest team news and a score prediction.

Germany vs. Hungary lineups & team news

With his team close to securing qualification, Nagelsmann stuck with the same XI that took Scotland apart.

Niclas Fullkrug performed well as a substitute and scored Germany's fourth goal in Munich, but Kai Havertz continues at centre-forward having got in on the act himself from the penalty spot.

Germany starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Neuer (GK) — Kimmich, Rudiger, Tah, Mittelstadt — Andrich, Kroos — Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz — Havertz

Hungary boss Marco Rossi brought in Bendeguz Bolla at right wing-back for Attila Fiola.

Le Havre defender Loic Nego, and Parma's Botond Balogh, are still recovering from injuries suffered prior to the tournament. They did not train with the team on Tuesday and will not be ready to face Germany.

Hertha Berlin's Marton Dardai took part in the session and returns to the back three.

Hungary starting lineup (3-4-2-1): Gulacsi — Lang, Orban, Szalai — Bolla, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez — Sallai, Szoboszlai — Varga

Germany vs. Hungary prediction

  • Score prediction: Germany 3-1 Hungary

Hungary will be desperate for a result after losing their opening game, but Germany's strength, and their home support, should make for an insurmountable task.

The host nation started the Scotland game with authority and a repeat performance could see them take early control of this game, much as Switzerland did against these opponents on matchday one.

There's a good chance Hungary could get a goal as they chase valuable points, but this could leave them open to the pace of Germany's counter-attack. A relatively routine win seems likely.
