Having fallen from its No. 1 ranking, defending national champion Clemson continues its title defense by hosting new ACC member and fellow top-five side Stanford in South Carolina on Thursday evening.

The Tigers drew 2-2 with rival South Carolina a week ago on the road. That result forced Clemson to cede its top rank to West Virginia, falling to No. 2 in the nation. Both sides had a lead at various points of the match, but it was Misei Yoshizawa's 66th-minute equalizer that determined the result.

It has been almost been a full calendar year since the Tigers lost a match, falling 3-1 at Notre Dame early last season on Sept. 9.

Stanford, ranked No. 5, suffered its only loss to a quality Denver side but has bounced back with explosive wins over CSU Fullerton and St. Mary's since.
