Tottenham midfielder, Christian Eriksen has heaped praise on Victor Wanyama whom he described as a key figure in Spurs’ line-up.

The Kenyan captain returned to first-team action after four months of nursing a knee injury, but Eriksen now believes that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will find their grooves once again with the return to action of the combative midfielder.

"He's a fantastic team-mate. A team player who always put his foot in and does the work for the team," the Denmark international told SkySport.

"On the pitch, I know if I go forward there is a guy behind me who will try to win the ball back so we can go forward again. He knows his role and he plays it very well. On the pitch you can trust him; he's safe on the ball, a good passer, a good tackler and of course, he's a strong guy who you don't get past very easily. He has a bit of everything for a holding midfielder."

Wanyama will return to St. Mary’s Stadium when he faces his former side, Southampton in a Premier League match on Sunday.

Since the defeat at Manchester City, Spurs have hit opponents aside with only West Ham taking a point from them.
