USA World Cup roster release: What time does USMNT announce soccer national team for Qatar 2022? image

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup less than a month away, U.S. men's national team head coach Gregg Berhalter is putting the finishing touches on his 26-man roster for the tournament in Qatar.

After missing the 2018 World Cup in agonizing fashion, the USMNT endured a long four-year cycle during which dozens of players helped the U.S. return to qualification. In the process, each player made his case for a spot at the tournament in Qatar.

The USA has by far the youngest overall player pool of any team at the 2022 World Cup based on qualifying matches, with an average age of 23.82 through the 14 CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, nearly a full two years younger than anyone else who qualified for the World Cup, according to U.S. Soccer.

All U.S. fans will be eagerly awaiting the eventual announcement of the 26-man squad to take the field for FIFA's showcase tournament which starts Nov. 20.

When does USMNT announce World Cup team?

The USA will announce its 26-man World Cup roster on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. ET.

Gregg Berhalter will pare down his preliminary roster, which featured 35-55 players and was due to be submitted to FIFA on Friday, October 21. It's from this original provisional list that he will select his final 26 names who will be available for match selection in Qatar. The United States chose not to make its provisional roster public.

Any injury replacements are permitted only up to the team's first match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup (USA open play on Nov. 21) and must come from the original preliminary roster.

Who will make the USMNT 2022 World Cup team?

The likes of Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tyler Adams are sure to be locks on the roster if healthy, as they look to lead the United States to victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, there are a number of places still up for grabs.

Most notably, there are questions at center-back. Walker Zimmerman is a lock to not only make the roster but start in defense, but his partner is at this point uncertain thanks to a long-term injury to Miles Robinson. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Aaron Long, and Erik Palmer-Brown are all in contention.

Up front, the striker spot is also in question. Jesus Ferreira seems likely to be the starter for the U.S., but he hasn't exactly secured his spot, and there are many who could press him for time. Still, the likes of Ricardo Pepi, Josh Sargent and Jordan Pefok will first need to secure a spot on the roster before pushing for playing time — and goals — in Qatar.

Here are some early media reports on potential roster selections and absences:
