Women's World Cup 2019 preview: What to know, how to watch USWNT vs. England image

The United States will be the team to beat as the Americans take on England in the semifinals of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup on Tuesday.

After defeating Spain 2-1 in a tense round of 16 match and then topping host nation France 2-1 to make it out of the quarterfinal stage, the Americans are the favorites to not only make it to the finals but also win another title.

England, on the other hand, breezed past Cameroon in the opening round of the knockout stage and then topped Norway, 3-0, to make it to the semifinals. The nation enters with momentum but will have to stop veteran Megan Rapinoe, who has five goals and three assists at this World Cup.

The USA's defense will be challenged again, especially with England striker Ellen White. She's been sharp in this tournament as she's been aggressive in the penalty area.

Tuesday's match will determine who will advance to the final and face the winner of Wednesday's match between Netherlands and Sweden.

Here's what you need to know:

What time does the USA vs. England match start?

The match kicks off at 3 p.m. ET at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon, France.

How to watch or stream the USA vs. England game?

Fox will broadcast the USA vs. England game. It can also be live-streamed on the Fox Sports Go app. It can also be streamed via fuboTV.

How many times has the U.S. played England?

The U.S. has played England 16 times. The Americans are 10-4-2 against the Lionesses, but have won just one of the last three meetings. The two have met in the World Cup only once, in 2007, when the Americans won 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

Who is the England player to watch?

Lucy Bronze: Considered by many the top right back in women’s soccer, Bronze makes the position look easy. She is strong on corner kicks and free kicks and knows how to lead an attack. Bronze helped England to its best-ever finish in the World Cup four years ago (third place) and then played an integral role in helping England beat out three top-10 teams to win this year’s SheBelieves Cup. She has one goal and two assists so far in this tournament, and will be a playmaker that the U.S. will need to figure out how to stop.

What are three Opta facts to know?

  • Tuesday's match will feature three players who are currently tied for the Golden Boot, which is awarded to the tournament's top scorer. The USA's Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe have both scored five goals, as has England's Ellen White.

  • The United States has made it to the semifinal round of every Women's World Cup (eight total), but the Americans have lost three times at this stage. They earned the trophy in 1991, 1999, and 2015 and finished as runners-up in 2011.

  • With the USA's 2-1 win over France, the Americans matched the Women's World Cup record of 10 consecutive victories, which was set by Norway between 1995 and 1999.

Prediction

USA 3, England 1

Expect the United States to take an early lead as the Americans have made it on the board first in all five of their games, and they've done it between the third and 12th minute of each match. The Americans will be challenged, but if they use a similar tempo and can break through defenders like they did against France, they should advance to the finals.
