With World Cup and Olympic qualifying coming up this summer at the CONCACAF W Championships, the U.S. women are looking to get ready for the competition with a pair of games against a team from the Asian region in Uzbekistan, ranked 48th in the world by the official FIFA rankings.

It will be the first two all-time meetings between the two sides. Uzbekistan has never reached either the Women's World Cup or the Olympics, nor has it ever exited the group stage of the AFC Women's Asian Cup.

The matchup marks the 55th different country that the USWNT has faced in its history, and the eighth all-time nation from the Asian confederation. It's the first new Asian team the USWNT has met since a 2016 meeting with Thailand, a 9-0 victory for the USA.

Vlatko Andonovski's squad is coming off a solid showing at the 2022 SheBelieves Cup in February that featured two wins and a draw by a young squad that was looking to impress for potential consideration for the full-strength women's side that will compete for World Cup qualification. The likes of Sofia Huerta, Jaelin Howell, Catarina Macario, Ashley Hatch, and Trinity Rodman all used solid performances at that February event to earn places on the squad for the matches against Uzbekistan.

The U.S. has not allowed a single goal on home soil in over two years, last conceding in a 3-1 win over Japan in March of 2020. The shutout streak, spanning a gargantuan 17 home clean sheets and 1,562 minutes, has featured four different goalkeepers taking part.

USWNT vs. Uzbekistan lineups

The USWNT, having tested out a batch of younger players, should begin shifting towards a more full-strength lineup as the CONCACAF W Championships draw near, but there are still notable absentees from this roster. Stars Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe do not appear, while the pregnant Crystal Dunn is not yet ready to return.

Abby Dahlkemper and Lindsey Horan have returned from injury and made the squad, and are likely to feature. Sam Mewis was initially named to the squad, but has withdrawn as she is not quite ready to return from a knee injury.

With Becky Sauerbrunn recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus, it will be interesting to see how much Dahlkemper is featured in the defensive middle, or if Andonovski sticks with the younger Tierna Davidson and Alana Cook. Andonovski has been adamant that Trinity Rodman is still developing and will be brought along slowly.

USWNT starting lineup - April 9 (4-3-3): 1-Naeher (GK) — 19-Fox, 15-Cook, 2-Dahlkemper, 5-O'Hara — 10-Horan, 17-Sullivan, 16-Lavelle — 9-Pugh, 20-Macario, 11-Smith.

USWNT subs - April 9 (7): 21-Kingsbury (GK), 8-Huerta, 22-K. Mewis, 6-Howell, 13-Sanchez, 23-Purce, 7-Hatch

All players on the roster either play domestically or in nearby Turkey.
