The 2024 Copa America saw the U.S. knocked out at the group stages of the competition.
As the tournament continues to expand, the USMNT were a key driving force in bringing more CONCACAF nations into it, with the 2016 centenary edition the first time the tournament was held outside of a CONMEBOL country.
However, despite their strides in this competition and on the world stage, the USMNT are still finding their Copa America feet, and continued to struggle against the established sides of South America.

How USA were eliminated from Copa America
Entering the final round of group play, the U.S. sat second in Group C, which is a qualifying position. However, they were then beaten by title contenders Uruguay, while Panama beat basement-dwellers Bolivia.

The USMNT have never won a Copa America title, with no CONCACAF nation managing to break the CONMEBOL dominance of the competition, since they first became involved in the competition in 1993.
Mexico have reached the final twice, losing out to Argentina in 1993, and Colombia in 2001.

The changing nature of the Copa America has created a mixed picture for the USMNT. This is the first time they have been required to qualify after being invited to take part in 1993, 1995 and 2007 before hosting in 2016.
