The Copa America returns to the United States in 2024 and the USMNT will be hoping to make an impression in front of their home fans.

After a turbulent period, Gregg Berhalter is back at the helm and there are opportunities for a talented squad to make some big statements in 2024.

In March, the USA will have the chance to make it three titles out of three in the CONCACAF Nations League before the cream of South American talent arrive up north in June.

A semifinal run from USMNT at the 2016 Copa America Centenario saw the side put on a show on home soil. As the draw below demonstrates, matching those exploits would be no mean feat.

The USA did not qualify automatically as hosts but instead via a 4-2 aggregate over Trinidad & Tobago in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Nations League, which ensured they will be present at their own party.

Their status as the defending CONCACAF Nations League winners and the highest-ranked North American team in the competition means they are automatically placed into Group C as a seeded team.

Pot 2 threw the U.S. a very tough opponent in Uruguay, who have beaten both Argentina and Brazil early in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. Pot 3 gave them fellow CONCACAF opponents Panama, and they drew Bolivia from Pot 4.

USMNT Copa America 2024 path to the final

If the United States progress as group winners, they will face the runners-up from Group D, from which the winners will be paired with the Group C runners-up in the quarterfinals.

Nine-time winners Brazil are the seeded team in Group D, so if both win their respective groups, they would have a potential matchup in the semifinals. Yet if both progress via opposite group stage finishes, they would meet in the quarterfinals.

Also in Group D are ColombiaParaguay, and the playoff winner of Honduras or Costa Rica, meaning at least one of those three teams will also reach the knockout stage and could possibly be an opponent for the U.S. in the knockout stage.
