Ugandan forward Paul Nsibambi took a slim lead in the race for the top scorer after three rounds of matches in the ongoing 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

The Ugandan hero scored his third goal of the tournament in Cranes’ 1-1 draw against Ethiopia on Sunday to shoot his country into the semi-finals.

Ugandan were headed for an early exit from the tournament until Nsibambi rose higher above Ethiopian defence to head home a late equalizer in the 85th minute.

Nsibambi’s too opened one step up in the race for Golden Boot with his closest challengers Kassim Kassim and Abel Tilahum, who are second with two goals each.

Just like Abel, his teammate Abdela Sani (two goals) also ended their dream of bagging the top scorer’s award after Ethiopia crashed out of the tournament.

Zanzibari's Kassim will have the chance to cut Nsibambi’s lead when he takes on Libya in the last Group A match later today.

Cecafa top scorer:

Paul Nsibambi (Uganda)- 3 goals

Tilahun Abel (Ethiopia) – 2 Goals

Kassim Kassim (Zanzibar) – 2 goals

Abdela Sani (Ethiopia) – 2 goals
