The United States made their quarterfinal task much simpler thanks to a late flurry of goals last Thursday in Austin, beating Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 after 80 minutes of frustration.

Strikes from Ricardo Pepi, Antonee Robinson, and Gio Reyna in the final 10 minutes of play gave the U.S. key breathing room as they look to move on to the CONCACAF Nations League semifinals and secure qualification to the 2024 Copa America in the process.

Without Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah, the U.S. struggled to break down a bunkered opponent, even after Trinidad and Tobago were reduced to 10 men just prior to halftime, but they finally broke through late for a first-leg victory in this quarterfinal. Now, their job becomes much simpler in the second leg thanks to the significant aggregate advantage.

Trinidad and Tobago vs USA prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: USA (-1400)
  • Score prediction: Trinidad and Tobago 1-3 USA

Trinidad and Tobago defended valiantly in the first leg but just didn't have enough to last the full 90 minutes. The U.S. struggled to create good chances en masse, but they pushed through to the end and came out with a solid first-leg advantage.

Now that the hosts will be forced to open things up a bit, they may be able to break down the U.S. and trouble their back line in moments, but it will also allow them to be picked apart on the other end. The U.S. should manage to come away as winners and further avenge the 2017 nightmare in Couva.

Trinidad and Tobago vs USA: best bet

With Trinidad and Tobago forced to give this comeback a go, they will have to open themselves up and come out of the shell they were so tightly compacted in back on Thursday. The U.S. struggled to create openings in that game, but with more space there should be far more chances on net.

Trinidad may even score, as they are the ones who desperately need to, but don't expect the United States to sit back and absorb pressure against an inferior opponent either. This one could get going and provide fireworks.

Trinidad and Tobago vs USA prop bet

    • Pick: 2+ goals in the first half
    • Odds: -115 (FanDuel)

While Trinidad and Tobago may try to get this one through the first half-hour or so before really going for the match, the U.S. will want an early goal to erase any doubts about a possible miracle comeback.

Expect Berhalter to come out of this game firing, and the U.S. should be able to deliver against a more desperate Trinidad and Tobago side that can't stay bunkered forever.
