Transfer window should shut before Premier League season starts - Kane image

Harry Kane believes the Premier League are right to consider closing the summer transfer window before the season starts because players involved in transfer rumours become distracted.

The 24-year-old has been linked with clubs himself over the years and he welcomed the discussions to shorten the window for English clubs.

Tottenham suffered a 2-1 defeat by Chelsea in their first game at Wembley on Sunday, despite dominating proceedings, and Kane subsequently waded into the transfer window debate after a frustrating afternoon at his club's temporary new home.

"I know there have been talks about closing it before the start of the season and I think, for me personally, that would be good," said Kane. "I think once the season starts it would be good for everyone to know where they are at and just start the season.

"At the minute, players are going here, there and it is maybe hard for some players to concentrate on the start of the season. We will see what happens in the future but my opinion is it would be good to end it when the season starts.

"I think most clubs, everyone waits until the last minute to see who you can get, to get the best deal and it is understandable. Why wouldn’t teams do that? My opinion is that it probably shouldn't be open now but it is what it is."

Tottenham are known for doing their business late in the transfer window and have recently secured their first signing of the season. Mauricio Pochettino's side have brought in Davinson Sánchez from Ajax for £42million and are targeting more deals before the window closes.

Meanwhile, the defeat by Chelsea saw Kane extend his record of not being able to score in August for Tottenham.

Kane has won the Premier League's Golden Boot winner for the last two seasons, netting 29 goals last year and 25 in the year before, as he consistently finds the net in the English top division.

However, Kane insists that he doesn't care about the talk of his early season goal droughts and he believes that he will score regularly again this season.

"It is something that gets spoken about a lot but I am not too bothered about it. I try to play well for the team and score in every game but sometimes the ball just doesn’t go in. I tried today, off the post, I was unlucky with a few chances that I had.

"I just have to keep working hard, keep my head down and that’s it, I am sure the goals will come. We are just looking to go again. Another year that we’re playing together, another year that we are working with the manager.

"Look, we played very well today and it is very frustrating because we should win these games but we didn’t, but that’s football. There’s not much that we can do but keep working hard in training and we have another important game here before the international break.

"We have got a good squad, you can see today, we have no complaints [with our quality]. It is not like we played badly or that Chelsea were better than us. They had two or three chances and they scored two of them.

"We had eight or nine and only scored one, so whatever happens in the next couple of weeks we will go from there."
