Club America striker and Mexico international Raul Jimenez is closing in on a move to Porto, according to a report in Portugal’s O Jogo.
The newspaper indicated that 23-year-old Jimenez will replace Colombian Jackson Martinez, who is nearing Porto’s exit door.
The article cites Ricardo Pelaez, who is leaving his post as sporting director of the Mexico national team to return to Club America.
“I’ll return to the club and I will see what is happening,” the sporting president said. “We are willing to negotiate for Raul.”
The player has indicated he would like to play in Europe and with his Mexico teammates Diego Reyes and Hector Herrera already at Porto, it would seem like an ideal move.
Jimenez was Mexico’s savior in World Cup qualifying when he netted a spectacular overhead kick against Panama last October, but he played only six minutes at the tournament itself, coming on in the Group A game against Brazil.
The striker’s path to leave appeared to have opened up after America signed Oribe Peralta from Santos Laguna before the World Cup.
