Transfer news: Jonathan Dos Santos set to join brother at Villarreal image

Barcelona and Villarreal have reached an agreement over the sale of Mexican Jonathan dos Santos, the Catalan club announced in a press release on Wednesday.

The completion of the deal is still dependent on Dos Santos passing a medical and the paperwork then going through, but it is confirmed at 2 million euros, with Barcelona retaining a sell-on percentage clause should the midfielder move on from Villarreal.

The 24-year-old will be joining his brother Giovani dos Santos at The Yellow Submarines and should have an improved chance of playing time now he has recovered from an ACL injury suffered in October 2013.

Dos Santos spent 12 years at Barcelona, working his way up through La Masia, but only played a total of 28 games with the first team.

The player had consistently stated his desire to stay and fight for a first-team spot, but incoming manager Luis Enrique appears to have given him no guarantees.

Dos Santos’ move is also a boost for the Mexico national team.  The player debuted for El Tri back in 2009 and played five games in 2010, but has failed to nail down a spot largely due to his lack of minutes at club level.
