Toronto FC announced Wednesday the signing of midfielder Sergio Camargo to a homegrown contract.
Canada announces 24-man roster for U-20 camp
The 22-year-old joined TFC's academy in 2009 and appeared for the first team in a friendly against Liverpool in 2012. Camargo also played in the fourth-tier PDL for Canadian side K-W United, which he captained during the club's 2015 PDL North American Championship title run.
In the NCAA, Camargo split time between Coastal Carolina University and Syracuse University.
“We are very excited to sign Sergio, another Canadian homegrown player,” TFC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a club release. “During his time in our academy, NCAA and PDL, Sergio has progressed and grown his game on a number of levels. We look forward to welcoming Sergio back to Toronto FC and watch his continued development as a professional soccer player.”
A former Canadian youth international with caps at the U-17 and U-20 levels, Camargo becomes the 13th player to graduate from Toronto's academy to the first team.
