The midfielder took his tally to three for the season, with all of them coming in Spurs' past five Premier League fixtures as he looks set to embark on another fine season at the club.

Alli played a key role in Tottenham finishing third in the league last season, impressing through his natural knack for bursting into the box to fire 10 top-flight goals.

One man who is a huge admirer of Alli's penchant for scoring goals from midfield is the Premier League's all-time top marksman Alan Shearer, who has likened the Tottenham ace to Frank Lampard.

But, when trawling through goal-scoring stats, Goal has discovered that Alli actually has a better record in front of goal than Lampard did after his first 41 league appearances.

While Alli's strike against West Brom moved him up to 13 in 41 league outings, Chelsea legend Lampard — remembered as the best goal-scoring midfielder of his generation — scored just three.

Ex-MK Dons man Alli has also registered nine league assists, whereas Lampard could only register two in the same period.

Hailing him as his inspiration growing up, Alli has also been compared to his idol Steven Gerrard — another midfielder who lit up the Premier League with a spectacular amount of goals for Liverpool.

But Alli has also outstripped Gerrard after 41 appearances — with the Liverpool icon having only recorded one goal and three assists in the same period.

At age 20, Alli has a long way to go to match Lampard and Gerrard's remarkable consistency, but the figures highlight how he is on the right track to potentially even surpass them.
