We are now approaching the business end of the 2024 Copa America, which means every game takes on significant importance for those involved.
With only four spaces available in the semifinals, most of the original field is heading home early from the United States.
Jamaica became the first team to know its fate, losing its second game of the tournament, this time to Ecuador, 3-1. The United States suffered the most disappointing group stage exit, beaten by Panama and Uruguay to suffer an early elimination. The first giant to fall was Brazil, who fell to Uruguay in the quarterfinals on a penalty shooutout.

Teams out of Copa America 2024: Updated list of nations eliminated
The 16-team format gives the Copa America an initial round-robin phase of four groups of four. The top two in each section qualified automatically for the quarterfinals, while the teams that finished third and fourth in each group were eliminated.
From that point on, the tournament is a straight knockout competition, with a penalty shootout if necessary after any game that is level at full-time in the knockouts. For the final only, that is preceded by 30 minutes of extra time.
