Super Cup: Mumbai City FC have two foreign players for East Bengal clash image

Mumbai City FC are all set for their Super Cup pre-quarterfinal clash against East Bengal on Thursday evening at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar. However, the Ranbir Kapoor co-owned franchise will be without the services of six foreign players when they take to field against the Kolkata giants.

While striker Rafael Jorda hasn’t recovered in time, the Brazilians in the squad, namely Everton Santos, Thiago Santos, Gerson Vieira, Marcio Rosario and Leo Costa, have been released from their duties. Vieira has since joined Renofa Yamaguchi FC, who ply their trade in Japanese second division. It must be noted that the Brazilian players have an opportunity to get another contract in their homeland between now and the start of next season's Indian Super League (ISL).

Only skipper Lucian Goian and midfielder Achille Emana are available for selection for the knockout game this week.

This is yet another example of Super Cup being a superficial tournament which the ISL clubs are seeing as an exercise in futility.
