Super Cup 2018: Sankarlal Chakraborty - Silly mistakes cost us the game image

Mohun Bagan head coach Sankarlal Chakraborty conceded that his team's mistakes allowed Bengaluru FC to win the 2018 Super Cup semi-final that ended 2-4 at the Kalinga Stadium on Tuesday. The Blues, a goal down after the first half and later a man down after Nishu Kumar was sent off in the second half, fought their way back to win the game.

"First of all,l we conceded because of a silly mistake. The first goal wasn't a brilliant move. It was lack of concentration from our players. After that, they capitalised and scored more goals," said Sankarlal.

"Overall I am happy with my team's performance. Maybe it is my mistake that I couldn't guide them properly.

"Our plan was to let Bengaluru play and block them in our zone. First half went well. In the second half, we made silly mistakes which cost us the game.

"May be there was overconfidence after going up and them getting a red card. They missed chances. But this happens in a match," said Sankarlal after he saw his team throw away their 1-0 lead despite playing against a 10-man Bengaluru.

He also explained why he took striker Akram Moghrabi off for defender Rana Gharami when his team was chasing the game in the second-half. "Akram got injured. We didn't have a striker on the bench. Kingsley has proved himself earlier as a good goal scorer."

Sankarlal concluded by saying that Mohun Bagan's journey has been excellent season despite a lack of silverware.

"In a match, a 10-man opponent can always win. It happens all over the world. I am happy. Overall, the journey has been excellent. In a club like Mohun Bagan, not winning a trophy is not acceptable but from the players' point of view, it was great."
