Sporting Kansas City announced Monday that it had acquired Christian Volesky in a trade with the Portland Timbers, who owned the forward's MLS rights. The Timbers will receive SKC's natural fourth round pick in this week's MLS SuperDraft.

Volesky, 24, was most recently with the Rochester Rhinos of the USL. He joined the Rhinos after being drafted and going unsigned by the Timbers in 2015, and he tallied 18 goals and seven assists in two seasons for Rochester.

“Christian is a player who fits many of the characteristics we are looking for in our team,” Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes said in a club statement. “He is a young, hungry player who we've followed closely over the past two years and who we feel can give us depth in a position of need.”
Volesky is on a one-year contract with Sporting KC, with options for 2018, 2019 and 2020.
