Setien lauds 'brilliant' Boateng after Villarreal victory image

Kevin Prince Boateng was on target as Las Palmas defeated ten-man Villarreal 1-0 at the Estadio Gran Canaria on Saturday.

Coach Quique Setien admitted that his charges weren't too brilliant on the day but spared some time to praise the Ghanaian for the lone-goal winner.

"In the first half, we cancelled out Villarreal, but in the second half we lost it a little and let our rivals back in it," Setien said.

"We started off really well, but they pressured us hard. We made a few counter attacks and went ahead with the goal by Kevin Prince Boateng, and following the sending off we were superb for 30 minutes. In the second half, we let things slip and let our rivals back into it.

"It wasn’t a brilliant performance but we have picked up three vital points thanks to the brilliant performance of Prince that allow us to look forward with a certain amount of tranquillity.

"In the second half, we ended up with each player fighting his own battle which we have been working on in training this week. Villarreal were a threat even with ten men. Raul made a great save, and that really set us up".

Boateng has scored eight goals this season, his best goalscoring run in a single season so far in his career.

Goal understands that the midfielder will be handed another one-year contract following his fine performances.
